You’ll be better off not reading it!

D’Accord. on all points. I used to rely on the NYT in South America for news. In the last few years the only credible commentary has to do with book reviews and culinary events. their coverage of anything technical is farcical.

I too, gave up on the print and went to digital, and I only do that in order to hear the distaff flak.

Dropping the fake NYT is only the opener. They are guilty of so much more.

I agree that he is consistent on nuclear, we should not prioritize solar and wind to the detriment of better baseload plants, but there IS a place for solar and wind and EVs. They have all proven to be a part of the transition. Rooftop solar and battery storage work. Texas has a huge wind base. EVs will eventually be the future of cars. China is building $10k cars. It will just take many more years to build out.

I wish we were giving more subsidies in the direction of nuclear.

There are companies that have already started Fusion plants that believe the science is close.

I agree with most of Bryce’s views, I just think there’s a counterpoint.

Curt, renewable energy is a scam. Would only be a small niche without huge subsidies. Federal and state. Rooftop solar shifts costs to grid customers. They will never replace baseload and peaking power but instead run up cost because two systems are needed for reliability. Everywhere renewables have been added, costs go up. Texas ERCOT electrical prices are up 20% in the last 3 years despite flat natural gas prices. Why? Increased renewables. All the while, the wind and solar lobbies say that they produce cheap electricity. This ignores increased system costs. Pls google Life Powered at TPPF for a reality check.

I read "The Grey Lady Winked" several years ago. At the time I began to read it, I was aware of how the NYT had been extraordinarily slow to cover the Holocaust. But I thought that problem was a one-off.

"The Grey Lady Winked" showed me that their lack of coverage of the Holocaust was part of a pattern. A distressing book. But worth reading.

Chasing editors out for having published an op-ed from a sitting US Senator is evidence of the extent to which the newsroom inmates are running the asylum. Bari Weiss's observation that Twitter belongs on the NYT masthead was spot on. NYT gave us crazies like Taylor Lorenz.

The good news is Weiss's ejection from the Times put Substack on the map.

I’m with you on 2 - 5. On the price increase, I think they are still at a reasonable price.

I subscribed a number of years ago but it didn't matter what the problem was, it was caused by climate change. It didn't take me long to get my fill of that tripe and I canceled my subscription. I haven't missed it at all.

Not much difference at the Wall Street Journal. Their bias shines thru on news stories and, if it weren’t for the Editorial pages, I wouldn’t spend the money.

The NYTimes motto might better be "All the News that Fits". I presume that someone has already said that, but it seems to fit.

I once took a red pencil to several news articles one day a number of years ago. I redlined out everything that was opinion in those articles. When I finished I was surprised that a monstrous portion of 'reporting' was in fact the reporter's personal opinion. I have haven't bought it since.

It’s about time there is an alternative to the “old style boring , non investigative papers and cable tv news with its same ole same ole format with same guests who are afraid to tell the public that trump is officially a DICTATOR.

Substack is new, refreshing , innovative way to hear from real people in real time that gives us clarity as to why we let America burn like Nero right in front of us with zero pushback.

You go Substack!!!!

Substack is a reflection of a major shift in society. Institutions of all kinds have been discredited or have discredited themselves. Substack is powerful for many reasons, but a key is that it allows readers to follow people they trust without having those people's work filtered/edited by an institution.

Canceled mine back in 2018 when I misunderstood their new editorial hire Sarah Jeong’s tweet: #CancelWhitePeople to mean that I should cancel my subscription.

Never looked back.

I dumped NYT pre-pandemic, and haven't looked back. Paying for all the subscriptions I want would be outlandish money though, so the Substack model has to evolve. I'm sure it will.
